TOPS (Team of Passionate Social Workers)
TOPS (Team of Passionate Social Workers) is the student association of the Department of Social Work, functioning as a platform for academic, social, cultural, and community-oriented activities. The association encourages students to actively participate in seminars, workshops, awareness campaigns, field visits, outreach programmes, observation days, cultural events, and leadership initiatives.
TOPS aims to nurture social responsibility, teamwork, creativity, leadership, and professional skills among students while promoting the values and spirit of social work through meaningful engagement with society and the community.
Activities and Programmes
1. Workshops and Seminars
The department regularly organizes workshops and seminars to enhance students’ academic knowledge, professional skills, and field competencies. These programmes provide exposure to emerging trends in social work practice, mental health, community development, and allied fields. Expert sessions, interactive discussions, and skill-based training help students bridge the gap between theory and practice and promote continuous learning and professional development.
2. Karthavya – Social Work Fest
A flagship fest organized to promote social awareness, leadership, creativity, and student participation through various academic and cultural activities.
3. Santhwanam – Activities among Differently Abled
A community initiative focused on promoting inclusiveness, empathy, and social support through activities for differently abled individuals.
4. Thalir – Child Welfare Activities
A child welfare initiative aimed at promoting the well-being, education, creativity, and overall development of children through awareness programmes, recreational activities, educational support, and community engagement initiatives.
5. Mithra – Women Empowerment Programmes
A women empowerment initiative focused on promoting awareness, leadership, skill development, health, and social well-being among women through various educational, motivational, and community-based programmes.
6. Community Connect – Observation Visits
A field-based learning initiative under the Community Connect programme that enables students to visit and observe various community settings, social institutions, and development projects. The programme helps students understand real-life social issues, community dynamics, and intervention strategies, thereby bridging classroom learning with field experience and promoting social awareness and professional skills.
7. Unarvu – Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign
An awareness initiative aimed at educating students and the community about the harmful effects of substance abuse while promoting healthy lifestyles, mental well-being, and social responsibility through campaigns, seminars, and outreach activities.
8. Vidhyajyothi – Literacy Programme
A community-based literacy initiative aimed at promoting education, basic reading and writing skills, and lifelong learning among children and adults. The programme focuses on empowering individuals through knowledge, awareness, and skill development, thereby fostering educational inclusion and social upliftment.
9. Vayomadhuram – Elderly Care Programme
A community-based initiative aimed at promoting the well-being, dignity, and emotional support of elderly people through care visits, recreational activities, health awareness sessions, and psychosocial support. The programme focuses on ensuring respectful ageing and strengthening intergenerational bonding within the community.
10. Unarvu – Palliative Care Programmes
An outreach initiative focused on providing compassionate care and support to patients with chronic, life-limiting illnesses and their families. The programme emphasizes pain relief, emotional support, dignity in care, counselling services, and community-based palliative interventions to enhance quality of life.
11. Aardram – Counselling Services
Aardram is a compassionate counselling initiative aimed at providing emotional support, guidance, and psychological well-being services to individuals facing personal, academic, or social challenges. The programme focuses on empathetic listening, mental health support, crisis intervention, and promoting overall emotional resilience in a safe and supportive environment.
12. Snehasparsham – Donation Drive
A community service initiative aimed at collecting and distributing essential resources such as food, clothing, and study materials to support underprivileged individuals and families, promoting compassion, sharing, and social responsibility among students.
